Golf in the Alps

The alpine region offers some of the highest quality and most interesting golf courses in France. Spectacular scenery combined with accessible courses for all levels makes the Alpine region an attractive choice for a golfing holiday, based in Les Houches.

Chamonix has an excellent golf course (designed by Robert Trent Jones Snr.), which is located on the north side of Chamonix, at the foot of the famous Drus mountain range, at 1200m altitude.
The course is very well maintained and also contains a practice range (26 positions, 6 covered), and a putting green. The course is open from May to November. Cost is EUR41-60 per round depending on season and day of week.

Megeve golf course is spectacularly positioned on the Mont d'Arbois plateau, with views of Mont Blanc. The course was designed by Henry Cotton in 1964. Cost is EUR40-70 depending on the season. Les Gets is situated on the Chevannes range, with stunning views of the Mont Blanc range. The course is open from mid-June to mid-October. Approx 45 mins drive from Les Houches.

Pierre Carrée golf course is located near to the Les Carroz ski area. The copurse is open every day in July and August and weekends during June and September. The course is situated 1900m high and offers a variety of challenging holes for all levels (no handicap certificate required). There is also a restaurant with terrace available, and golf lessons too.

Evian
golf course, located on the south side of Lake Geneva, is one of the best courses in Europe. The course regularly plays host to the Womens Open and the Evian Masters Golf Club. The course was created in 1904 and designed by Cabell B. Robinson.. Totally renovated, the course has an exceptional setting and requires great technical skills. Situated around a 16th century farmhouse, the Royal Golf Club offers a magnificent club house with a panoramic terrace overlooking the course. Open 1st Feb - 30th Nov. 18 hole, 6006m par 72. Verbier (Switzerland) has a beautiful course at 1600m with excellent views of Mont Blanc and the Grand Combin. The course is open from May to November. Approx 1hr drive from Les Houches.

Crans Montana (Switzerland)
There are a series of golf courses in Crans, each offering superb views across the plateau. There is the 18 hole Bramois (Ballesteros designed), the 9 hole Jack Nicklaus and the 9 hole Super Crans for players without handicaps. Crans is regularly voted one of the top courses in Switzerland, and the 7th hole on the Bramois course is particularly famed. The Omega European Masters is also held here annually. There is also an outdoor and indoor range. Cost is 100CHF (approx £40) per round.

Lac d'Annecy - Talloires: Talloires is a resort town on the picturesque Lac d'Annecy. The golf course is in a panoramic setting with a backdrop of mountain ridges and views over Lake Annecy. The course is well wooded with rather tight fairways and small greens. Open 16th Jan-19th Dec. 18 hole, 5015m, par 72.
Lac d'Annecy - Giez: Giez is a medieval mountain village a few kilometres from the end of Lake Annecy en route to Albertville. The golf club has 9 and 18 hole courses, was opened in 1990 and designed by Didier Fruchet. The views of the surrounding mountains are stunning, including the Mont-Blanc and of the Lake of Annecy from the higher holes.Open all year round. 5820m (Le Belvédère - 18 hole) par 72, 2215m (Les Castors - 9 hole) par 33.
Club les Arcs: The course opens from July to September, and offers impressive views of Mont Blanc. 18 hole 5556m par 70.
Golf du Domaine de Divonne: Divonne is close to the French-Swiss border just outside Geneva, en route to Lausanne. Open 15th Mar-15th Dec. 18 hole 6035m, par 72.
Meribel, the Savoyard ski station in the Trois Vallées, is located at the doors of the Vanoise National Park. Set in this mountain environment with fir forests lining the fairway, the 9-hole course opened in 1978, extended to 18 holes between 1986 and 1990. Designed by British golf architect, Michael Fenn. The course requires a good technical level, the out 9 being best suited for powerful drivers and the back 9 for precise iron players. Open 1st June – 31st October. 18 hole, 5281m, par 69. Golf handicap certificate required.
Tignes: The famous skiing mecca of Tignes is home to a course around a lake at the foot of the 'Grande Motte' glacier, on the edge of the Vanoise National Park. Open 20th June - 15th Sept. 18 hole 4810m par 68.
