Les Houches
- Les Houches is a well
preserved classical French alpine village nestled at the foot of Mont Blanc.
The village centre has been well maintained and has a variety of shops and
restaurants. The friendly village atmosphere is ideal for children and a welcome
contrast to some of the larger, purpose-built ski resorts in the alps.
- Les Houches forms the
start of the Chamonix valley, with Le Tour located at the far end of the valley,
all under the shadow of Mont Blanc.
- Les Houches is one of
the major starting points for the ascent of Mont Blanc, hence has a real mountaineering
scene.
- Italy is just over a
20 min drive from Les Houches, via the Mont Blanc tunnel. Skiing in Courmayeur
(just over the Italian border) is therefore very accessible and Turin is approx
2hrs drive.
- Switzerland is approx
30 mins drive, as you approach Martigny. In fact the rail link from Le Fayet,
through Les Houches and Chamonix continues into Switzerland to reach Martigny.
Further afield, the ski resort of Verbier is approx 2hrs drive.
- Internet access is available
in the Office de Tourisme in Les Houches.
