Winter activities in Les Houches/Chamonix

Snowboarding
Les Houches is perfect for learning, particularly at the top, which is wide & flat. Argentiere/Grands Montets is best for steep descents, there is also a funpark and half-pipe. La Tour is especially good, as the resport is a natural half-pipe with long runs. The Vallee Blanche has many long flats, so needs to be treated with caution.

Off Piste skiing
Safety is paramount, and use of a guide is recommended (see link below).

Off-piste link between Les Houches & St Gervais.
A successful trip was undertaken during January 2004 and approximate route is marked in blue. Start point is the base of the Plancerts poma, then follow the blue line marked on this map. The dotted line marks where the road starts and descends into St Gervais. From there you could return to Les Houches via the Mt Blanc tramway or take a taxi.

Here are some further off-piste suggestions in Argentiere (unverified);
